Case in point, the Nevada Gaming Commission approved cybersecurity regulations for the state’s gaming industry to “protect operators’ information systems from attacks that could shutter casinos and compromise customer data,” according to CDC Gaming Reports.
Better still, they aren’t waiting around to do this, either. The new rules will go into effect on January 1st, roughly one week from today. Instead of letting the industry down while they dithered and debated, the gaming commission took swift, decisive action to help.
This will help to make the entire industry that much better for everyone. For example, “casinos will be required to do a risk assessment of their systems by the end of 2023 and take any necessary and ongoing steps to ward off attacks.” Moreover, “if any successful breach compromised player or employee data, credit card information, and/or other records, properties will be required to report it to gaming regulators within 72 hours.”
This is the kind of leadership that the industry has been looking for. The mobile sports betting industry is safer than it was yesterday and will be safer in the time to come.
