Rutgers Secures Elite Four-Star TE Korey Duff Jr., Snatching Him from Miami and North Carolina’s Grasp

Rutgers Secures Elite Four-Star TE Korey Duff Jr., Snatching Him from Miami and North Carolina’s Grasp

One of the best tight-end prospects in the 2024 class is Korey Duff Jr. He is also a top-tier prospect from New York, where he is listed as the No. 2 player by the 247Sports Composite.

Duff Jr. is a quality recruit without question, so the Scarlet Knights and head coach Greg Schiano took his decision to Rutgers seriously.

For his opponents, Duff Jr. can provide a matchup nightmare. He has the physique of a tight end but the hands and running style of a WR. After the catch, his height poses a threat. Duff Jr. excels at jump balls, has a wide reception radius, is a solid blocker, and is a danger in the red zone.

Duff, a tight-end prospect who has yet to compete in his senior year of high school, is an excellent size at 6-foot-5 and 207 pounds. He is the country’s No. 17 tight end, according to the 247Sports Composite. The senior high is a noteworthy recruiting victory because he committed to Rutgers over Miami and North Carolina. Among other schools, Duff had offers from Duke, Kansas, Pitt, Texas A&M, UCF, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia.

D-I Duff’s initial offer on the recruiting path came from Rutgers. The Scarlett Knights made an offer to him before his junior year when he played for St. Anthony’s (Melville, New York) and amassed 995 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Rising Star Korey Duff Jr. Commits His Trust to Rutgers’ Stellar Coaching Staff

Regarding his dedication to Rutgers, Duff told 247Sports that “the relationship goes a long way” and that “having faith in the staff goes a long way.” “I really trust the coaches and believe in what they have in store for me,” the player said. “I think with who they brought in, their experience in the NFL, and working with some top receivers.” Although it may and will change, we currently have a Top 25 recruiting class thanks to the addition of Duff, Schiano, and Rutgers.

The 200-pound, 6’5″ prospect is now a wide receiver but may go to tight end in college. Duff has steady hands, a smooth gait, and good speed. Additionally, Duff is willing to block in the run or short throw game downfield.

For 995 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns in 10 games as a junior at St. Anthony’s in Melville, New York, Duff Jr. had 42 receptions. By averaging 23.7 yards per reception and 99.5 receiving yards per game, he was outstanding in the passing game. Duff Jr. increased his output after a solid sophomore season, with 35 receptions for 682 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns in nine games. Duff Jr. averaged 19.5 yards per grab and 75.8 yards per game throughout the 2021 campaign.

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Duff Jr. is the No. 2 recruit in New York, the No. 17 tight end nationally, and the No. 341 overall in the 2024 class. Nearly two dozen offers, including double-digit power-five bids, are in his possession. They include, among others, Arizona State, North Carolina, Miami, Texas A&M, Maryland, Pitt, Syracuse, West Virginia, and Kansas.

Duff visited Miami and UCF on an unofficial basis and North Carolina and Rutgers on a formal basis over the past several months. Last weekend, he was supposed to travel to Miami for business, but that has yet to occur. Rutgers’ relentless pursuit of Duff Jr. will eventually result in his joining the Scarlet Knights.

Duff Jr. is anticipated to play tight end at the next level due to his blocking skills and build. Though I don’t think his ability to play wide receiver or even a hybrid role should be ruled out, it will be intriguing to see how he develops.

Greg Schiano and the coaching staff have scored a significant recruitment victory with this. Duff Jr. is a dynamic athlete who has the potential to make a substantial contribution right away in college. Like the previous great of Rutgers, Kenny Britt, he does sprint after the catch, but he is an even bigger target. After Duff Jr.’s commitment, the 20-member Rutgers 2024 class is ranked No. 24 nationally and No. 8 in the Big Ten according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The rankings will be updated as soon as KJ is included.
