Over the weekend, the Missouri Tigers secured a highly significant basketball commitment in the form of 7-foot-3 center Connor Vanover. His size and expertise are two qualities that undoubtedly matter in collegiate basketball. Vanover, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, participated for the Arkansas Razorbacks in the seasons 2020–21 and 202–23, averaging 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 12.1 minutes per game. The lack of playing time likely influenced his decision to move to Oral Roberts last season when he averaged 12.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in a more significant role with 25.8 minutes played per game.
Vanover, who will be attending Missouri, thinks he can significantly impact an offense that averaged 78.9 points per game last year and placed 23rd in the Final AP Poll.
“I choose Missouri because I fit there and like how they play. I’m thrilled to be a part of what Coach [Dennis] Gates is doing in Columbia since they have one of the best offenses in the country,” Vanover said to On3. “I enjoyed meeting and talking with staff members throughout my stay. I believe my special skill set can complement many different sectors.
After spending three extremely productive seasons at Cleveland State in the Horizon League, Dennis Gates is entering his second season at Missouri. Last year, his Mizzou team finished 25-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s second round. Gates took over for Cuonzo Martin, who had failed twice in five seasons to get Mizzou past the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The NCAA Transfer Portal is a private database with the names of student-athletes who want to transfer, and it includes every NCAA sport at Division I, II, and III levels. Public access is not possible.
The compliance office of a school is where the portal entry procedure is conducted. The office adds the player’s name to the database after receiving formal notice of a transfer intent from the player, and operations can then begin. The player’s request cannot be denied, and the compliance office has 48 hours to abide by it.
Other schools can contact a player after their name appears on the portal. At any time, players can alter their minds and leave the portal. However, the present scholarship is no longer required to be honored after a player enters the portal. In other words, the school is no longer required to offer a scholarship if a player enters the portal but chooses to stay.
