In 2003, Amorim began training at A.S.L.E. Academy – home to Jacare Souza and Ary Farias – under Henrique Machado and other renowned BJJ coaches. Today he holds a black belt under Neto with impressive credentials in BJJ. Additionally, she won two IBJJF Open tournaments in 2017 alongside these achievements. Jaqueline Amorim makes her UFC 287 debut after an impressive 6-0 start to her career that includes five victories via submission. In her first-ever fight, Amorim will face off against Sam Hughes who lost by unanimous decision to Piera Rodriguez back in October, leaving her record at 2-4 in six matches since then. Jaqueline Amorim is the 2nd-ranked of 103 active US Southwest women, as well as 20th among 536 Brazilians. Jaqueline Amorim ranks 18th out of 992 United States women overall and second out of 33 Oklahomans.
Sam Kristen Hughes is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the Strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Making her MMA debut at COGA 62 Supreme Showdown 4, Hughes defeated Kayla Frajman via rear-naked choke in the opening round. Later that same night she picked up two more stoppage victories; one by second round TKO and one by first round armbar submission. In her inaugural fight for Legacy Fighting Alliance at LFA 81 she faced Lisa Mauldin and won unanimously via unanimous decision. Sam Hughes 7-5 battled back from her winless 0-2 UFC start by upending Istela Nunes and Elise Reed back-to-back. However, she couldn’t quite make it three straight victories against Piera Rodriguez who collected five takedowns en route to a unanimous decision win. Although she stands two inches taller than Nunes, Hughes still faces a 3.5 inch reach disadvantage.
