UFC flyweight Bout: Amanda Ribas vs. Maycee Barber 6/24/2023 Game Analysis, Picks and Previews
This weekend’s co-main event is a flyweight match between No. 9 Amanda Ribas and No. 11 Maycee Barber at UFC Jacksonville. Neither woman will receive a direct crack at the UFC championship with a victory, but they will both move up the standings.
Despite maybe having the less remarkable record of the two, Ribas is most likely having a better stretch. The Brazilian has competed in flyweight and strawweight classes, winning matches in both. At 125 pounds, she has only lost once, to Katlyn Chookagian last year. Most recently, she defeated Viviane Araujo.
11-3-0 is Amanda Ribas’s record. The 29-year-old is 5’3″ tall and weighs 125 pounds. The traditional combatant reaches age 66. Maycee “The Future” Barber is listed as being 5’5″ and weighing 125 lbs. The switch fighter enters the ring with a 12-2-0 record. 25-year-old reaches the age of 65. Maycee Barber averages 4.27 significant strikes per minute, compared to Amanda Ribas’ 4.80 significant strikes per minute. Barber scores 51% of the important strikes she attempts, compared to Ribas’s 42%. Ribas receives 2.65 significant strikes each minute in the cage, whereas “The Future” only takes in 2.63. Additionally, Ribas stops 69% of the big hits her opponents aim at her, whereas Barber can save 54% of the shots.
The more effective wrestler in the division is Amanda Ribas, who submits her opponents 2.16 times every 15 minutes. Ribas succeeds in 52% of her takedown attempts, whereas in 88% of her opponents’ takedown attempts, she fails. Barber stuffs 47% of all takedown attempts made against her while bringing her opponent to the ground on 37% of her takedown attempts. Barber attempts 0.1 submissions per 3 rounds, whereas Ribas attempts 1.0 finishes per 3 rounds. Ribas is the better fighter when it comes to going for the submission.
Amanda Ribas defeated Viviane Araujo in her last match, which was decided by unanimous decision in round three. Araujo ultimately connected on 86 of the 162 total blows in the battle. Out of 320 total punches, Ribas connected on 205 of them to win this bout. Araujo had a 40% strike rate in the big strikes category, landing 46 out of 115 pitches. She ended up hitting the head with 37 of her 105 major blows. Ribas made 98 of her 183 important blows on the opposing side of the Octagon, hitting 53% of them. She delivered 149 important hits, 71 of which she connected with the target’s head. Araujo made 97% of his major blows from a distance, and Ribas connected on 94%.
On the other hand, Barber hasn’t exactly lived up to the expectations placed on her when she made her UFC debut in 2018. While ‘The Future’ has won her previous four fights, they have all been difficult to predict, with many people supposing she lost against Andrea Lee and Miranda Maverick. At 125 pounds, Barber is a brutally powerful fighter, and it is the biggest tool at her disposal. She is strong, agile, and possesses both knockout power and a strong wrestling style.
Technically speaking, her abilities haven’t yet caught up to her physical prowess, making her vulnerable to being outmatched in both strength and surprise. Of course, unless the opponent is as athletically endowed, it is difficult for them to do so, which is why only Alexa Grasso has really defeated “The Future,” with her only other defeat being following a serious knee injury.
